Douglas Community Centre Cost of Living Initiative

The grant would be used to support Douglas Community Centre’s Local Management Group respond to the cost of living crisis by extending access to community facilities over the winter, offering access to low cost meals.

Douglas Local Management Group are looking to provide evening meals from their community café on a Thursday evenings charging £1 per meal for 20 weeks. Starting on 26th October 2023, the meal that the Local Management group provide to the community will be part of a Cost of Living initiative to help local residents in time of need. Additionally, the project aims to offer families the opportunity to sit down together and enjoy a hot meal in a warm and inviting environment. This positive family interaction will scaffold learning opportunities and strengthen relationships.

The families and individuals who attend the Meal Sessions will be able to access additional learning and community engagement opportunities which will be available in the Community Centre.

Secondly, the Local Management Group are looking to supplement a key initiative in December, The Breakfast with Santa programme aims to support families in the East End ward of Dundee at a time of extreme financial stress for many. The Local Management Group intention is to support the families participating in the initiative and offer free meals, Christmas gifts and the prospect of the children meeting Santa.  This initiative is looking to support families create positive experiences together as a family unit, which in turn will generate stronger relationships and bonds
