Garden Improvements

There is an urgent need to improve the external environment around the library to enhance access for all but in particular those who use baby buggies or who have mobility issues or disabilities At present the garden to the west of the library is underdeveloped and overgrown. The main disabled access is difficult to see and access. As this route is also the emergency exit from the top part of the building to the muster point at the bus shelter, clear site lines and lighting are important The ponds which have been taken over by shrubbery, do sustain residual life which we wish to conserve increase. Going forward, w e want to encourage volunteers to participate, introduce sensory planting and create spaces where children, adults and families can enjoy and benefit. Our aim is to sustainably clear the site to improve and increase biodiversity. The funds are required for the expert tree surgeon services necessary for the removal of overgrown trees in the pond area and large beds which the Friends and Volunteers are not qualified to do. The results will create an easily maintained, sheltered area for people to use and will also provide a space for learning opportunities. We have been advised that with sympathetic clearing and appropriate planting, the area will very quickly attract wildlife. Working with local eco groups we will provide bird boxes and insect structures to support wildlife and biodiversity.
