Banishing Bambi – protective fencing for food garden

The Campy Growers are a charitable organisation dedicated to growing fresh, healthy vegetables on a 9-acre site in Camperdown Country Park (the old DCC plant nursery). We have been slowly expanding our cultivation space over the past three seasons and produced several tonnes of tasty veg this year, which was distributed to local residents, families, community cafes and food larders. Although we are committed to organic growing methods and working with biodiversity, there are some wild creatures that cause problems in the garden. Camperdown Park has always had a resident population of roe deer and the nursery space has been protected by a deer fence to prevent them eating the cultivated plants. The original fence has reached the end of its functional life and we have been advised that the entire fence-line needs to be replaced. Occasional damage has occurred due to storms, fallen trees etc and this has been fixed up but the support posts are now rotten and incapable of supporting the fence. So we are requesting support to replace the deer fence around the entire growing
