Diversionary Activities and Holiday Provision for Young People in Lochee Ward.

Following on from the successful delivery of a diversionary and holiday programme in 2022-2023 thanks to the Lochee Community Regeneration Forums funding we would like to offer a variety of activities throughout the coming year including the school holidays at Easter, Summer, October & Christmas. Each week of holiday provision, we hope to include 3x holiday provision sessions based at community centres/local parks with 1x weekly trip. This would enable us to be creative, diverse and responsive to the needs, interests and issues in relation to the Young People within the Lochee Ward and support their social and emotional development. We currently deliver 4x diversionary evening groups across the Lochee Ward and we have seen an increase of young people accessing our youth provisions over the past year, these are currently attended by over 150 local young people. This funding will allow us to increase the opportunities for young people. It will support the delivery of a full holiday programme. It will also allow us to work with young people on projects which are outside the reach of our normal budget due to cost for materials or specialist staff. The young people have come up with various activities & venues they’d like to go e.g Air Thrill, Edinburgh Zoo, Codona’s Aberdeen, Blair Drummond Safari Ancrum activities, Scrapantics etc. We would travel to the venues outside Dundee by coach & to local venues on DCC hired mini buses or using public transport. This funding will allow us to continue the weekly evening provisions for local young people, providing a variety of activities (sports, arts and crafts, games and creative projects.) Monies would be used for purchasing new resources identified by the group participants. Given the current cost of living crisis & food poverty, during all the trips and evening provisions we will provide hot meals and snacks at each session for all young people targeting food insecurity making sure they all get fed. Funding would pay for a variety of foods, meals, ingredients & snacks.
